I have a Kenmore Elite microwave/hood combo unit (model 721.88503) that was mounted to vent to the roof. Now I want to change it to vent thru the back.
What parts do I need to convert it from venting thru the top to venting to the rear? My new kitchen is on the outside wall of the house so this should be easy but I'm guessing I need some additional ducts to have my contractor put in the wall in preparation for the microwave venting to the rear. Also, I don't have any of the paper templates that the unit came with, can I get those some where? Maybe purchase the whole kit for venting to the rear? Thanks.

Changing the venting to an appliance, especially a microwave may be necessary. I was able to locate the installation manual which may have some of the information needed while you wait for the expert response. I also added the link to Sears Parts Direct for any additional parts. I hope this helps with this venting project.

I did see in the manual that there is a ducting piece that goes in the wall, just curious if that is the only extra bit I need and also if there is a place I can get the installation templates to mount it again since I'll be mounting it differently now with the rear vent. Also, does Sears sell the necessary pieces or should I go somewhere else? Thanks.

That installation guide shows the duct parts that are typically required to vent the microwave through the back wall. You need a 3 1/4" X 10" wall cap or a 3 1/4" X 10" to 6" round transition to complete that duct path to the outside of your home. The exact duct items that you need will vary based on the measurements and configuration of the wall and the vent path to the outside of your home. You will normally need that transition to the 6" round duct. You will then need an exit damper for the outside of your home. I do not believe that Sears sells those duct components. You can obtain those parts from your nearest home improvement center or hardware store.
I have contacted the manufacturer to get a part number for the installation templates that you need for this project. I will update this thread once I get that information from the manufacturer.Lyle w
